Shaquille O'Neal
has a resumé that speaks for itself. With four championships, two
scoring titles and a slew of other accolades under his belt, the NBA
Hall of Famer looks to advance his abilities off the court and on the
decks one step further by embarking on his first-ever DJ tour, Billboard Dance can exclusively announce.
The
big man will be heading on the road for 15 dates branded as the Summer
of SHAQ, including stops in Miami at Diplo's Mad Decent Pool Party,
Washington D.C. at Echostage with Cash Cash and more to be announced.
"A
lot of people think I am just a celebrity DJ, but I've been DJing since
I was 14 years old, through my LSU days, and even back when I was in
the NBA," O'Neal tells Billboard. "Over the years my musical
influences may have changed, but one thing has always stayed consistent
- it’s all about FUN and making people dance. That is what Summer
of SHAQ is all about."
Back in March, O'Neal made quite the splash during Miami Music Week with
Shaq's Fun House, a six-hour event that featured carnival games, circus
performers and a star-studded lineup including Diplo, Steve Aoki,
A-Trak, himself and more. The inaugural party was launched by O'Neal and
his business partners — now music managers — Adam Richman and Joe
Silberzweig.
The two recently formed Medium Rare, a boutique entertainment
consultancy and management firm. O'Neil says, "My partners Joe and Adam,
those guys are musical experts and really think outside the box. Medium
Rare represents a new generation of music mavericks and Shaq's Fun
House is just the beginning for them."
